Healthy Go-To Snacks

Over the years, we’ve been trying to create a healthier lifestyle for our family. It started back when my husband and I got married and we were both at our heaviest point we’d even been (at the time, remember this was before kids… lol) We were both tired of looking in the mirror and we knew something had to change.

One of the decisions we made was to refrain from grabbing fast food while we were out and about, and instead we developed a set of easy, healthy meals we could make at home. Slowly over time, we developed a new lifestyle that involved maybe eating out once a week, and even then we try to be healthy about what we choose.

Well since I know how it can be hard to find ideas for healthy snacks, I wanted to help by putting together my favorite snack ideas that we eat regularly and won’t make you feel like you just ate 1,000 greasy calories in one sitting.

Easy Healthy Snacks

1. Homemade Pita Chips These are delicious and when you combine them with hummus, they’re even more amazing! Start with a round of pita bread, cut them into slices like you would a pizza. Line a cookie sheet with tin foil and spray with cooking spray. You’ll then spread olive oil over both sides of the pita bread. Place them on cookie sheet and sprinkle the tops with a pinch of sugar. Bake at 375 for 12 minutes or until crispy. Pair with hummus (red pepper is my favorite!) for a guilt-free snack.

2. Apple Slices & Peanut Butter This one is self-explanatory and honestly, fruit is one of my favorite snacks. Keep your fruit bowl fully stocked for easy snacking (and a lesser likelihood of grabbing junk food).

3. Smoothies Whenever I’m craving something filling in between meals (or for breakfast), I try and make a quick smoothie. The key to enjoying a protein shake or smoothie is to create a taste that you actually like. For me, this comes down to a few go-to recipes (I use Isagenix IsaLean protein powder, but you can use whatever you have on hand!):

Chocolate Hazelnut Shake
1 Tbsp Nutella
1-2 scoops IsaLean protein
1 cup Crushed ice
2 cups milk
… blend and enjoy!

Pina Colada Shake
1-2 scoops IsaLean protein
1 cup crushed ice
1.5 cup coconut milk
1/2 cup crushed pineapple
(optional) pineapple juice
… blend and enjoy!

Orange Julius
1-2 scoops IsaLean protein
1 cup crushed ice
1.5 cups orange or mango juice
… blend and enjoy!

4. Strawberries & Greek Yogurt Dip
5. Nuts, Fruit & Yogurt Parfait – My favorite for this one is to layer black cherry yogurt, with flax seed, sliced almonds, blueberries and raspberries. It’s amazing!

6. Banana & Dark Chocolate Bites – This one is easy, but delicious. Slice a banana into 1/2″ thick circles. Melt dark chocolate and dip the corners of your bananas into the chocolate, then place on wax paper to dry. Once they’ve hardened, you can transfer them to a container and place them in the freezer for snacking.
7. Frozen Grapes

8. Nutty Snack Bars – These Sweet & Salty Peanut Butter bars from Nature’s Valley are my favorite, I pack them in my gym bag because I’m always starving after teaching classes. My hubby on the other hand swears by the Zone Perfect bars for protein and good taste.

9. Homemade Trail Mix – I love making my own trail mix, because I can choose what goes into it. One of my favorite mixes that I do at home is raisins, mini dark chocolate chips, unsalted peanuts, and sliced almonds.

These are some of my favorite go-to snacks that are easy to make, grab and eat! I’d love to hear your favorite ideas, leave a comment below and share!

Til next time, Sarah
